Whitetail Edge S3 E1Kentucky Jason. For the first episode of Whitetail Edge season 3, Ben Rising travels to Kentucky to hunt velvet bucks on property owned by Ben’s friend Todd. The property has been prepared for an incredible early-season hunt. In addition to the Antler King Trophy and Game Changer clover plots on the property, there are also bean fields and bait stations. This powerful combination attracts many males to the area, and Ben has set his sights on a male he has christened “Jason.
When planning the hunt, Ben consulted the Moon Guide, which revealed that on September 7, 2017 at 2:22pm, there would be an increase in deer movement. Ben decided to jump into the pit earlier than usual. He set up in an afternoon post to try and catch the male “Jason” directly out of the bedding area before he made his way into a food patch.
Deer hunting at the start of the season means you have to be even more attentive to scent. This means installing watchtowers with a downwind scent cone. For this hunt, Ben had placed his tree stand on the leeward side of the stand and had placed brush on the leeward side of the stand. This combination allowed Ben’s wind to get away from any approaching deer, even the wary 6-year-old male Jason.
