A big moose ready to fight

Welcome to all! We presented the first part last Saturday. The number of people who watched it was incredible! We’d like to thank you and present you with part two.

We invite you to read today’s article to find out what happened. But first… today’s story. We’ll say this. It’s the start of the rut.

One male (Dagger) molted, Flat Top had started molting earlier in the day. There will be another video after this one, and the action in all three videos took place on the same day. That’s cool because it means you’ll all get to see a big chunk of a really fun day in the Alaskan mountains.
A total of four bulls are involved: Dagger, FT, Spot and BB.

We’ll explain the names in more detail, but we can’t reveal how BB got hers until Libby shares the great images she got. We’ll make sure everyone has a good time. Today’s part two features more images of Dagger and FT “doing the dance”. They spent most of the day wondering whether they wanted to train or not. Remember, velvet bulls don’t usually fight, and Flat Top was busy getting rid of his. The little guy who goes to bed with Dagger and FT at the end is Spot.

Today, September 13, the bulls shed their velvet, a week late this year. The rutting pits are late… each stage seems late, it’s a progression and if the beginning is late, so is the whole. Swagger is at it again. There’s no doubt that he means business this season. We can’t wait to see what happens next. Finally, we hike more, see fewer elks and film MUCH less. But we’re giving it everything we’ve got, and we intend to accumulate images.
