You may have heard that I participated in season 8 of History Chanel’s survival show, ALONE. If you’re not familiar with the show, ALONE is a true survival program. Ten participants, with just 10 pieces of basic survival gear, are dropped alone into a remote wilderness to document their journey themselves, trying to survive as long as possible or until they’re the last ones standing. In this video, I’ll review my traditional bowhunting setup for ALONE season 8.I’ve been making and hunting with primitive bows and traditional archery equipment for over 20 years. When it came to choosing my top 10 survival items, a longbow or recurve bow was at the top of my list. Since I would be so dependent on my bow, I wanted something simple, reliable and effective. I chose a semi-primitive osage bow with mirrored tips, on the borderline between a longbow and a recurve bow. The bow I chose has an overall length of 64″ and shoots about 60#@29″. This weight is a bit heavier than I usually use, but I wanted to be ready for muskox and moose if the opportunity arose.
